Submissions & Inquiries


Mayapple Press is a highly-selective small press specializing in contemporary literature, especially poetry and works that straddle conventional categories: Great Lakes, women, Caribbean, translations, science fiction poetry, prose-poems, recent immigrant experience, Judaica. Publications are in both chapbook and trade paperback formats (usually under 100 pages). In general, we publish only authors with prior publications with reputable presses or literary magazines.

Mayapple Press reads manuscripts between July 1 and September 30. Please do not submit during other times of the year. Thank you!
Our normal response time is 3-4 months
.

Submissions and inquiries should be sent as email only, and should include:

  • a manuscript of no more than 100 pages (or a sample of 6-10 pages). Please use a clean, readable font such as Times New Roman, Arial, etc. Number your pages. No more than 1 poem per page. Use Page Break (Ctrl+Enter on PC) between poems.
  • a table of contents
  • a brief publications resume and bio
  • $10 reading fee (check or money order by mail, or PayPal payment online)

Please save email attachments such as manuscripts and resumes in .RTF format so that they can be read by all word processors. Such content can be included in the body of your email, but remember that italics, underlining and boldface will not travel as email text. Manuscripts and samples of work submitted without reading fee will not usually be answered or acknowledged.
